Couple Loses Son In Car Wreck Weeks After Their Boy Drowned

| by Denise Recalde

An Indiana man was involved in a three-car crash on Mar. 9 that killed his 6-year-old son. The accident happened less than two months after his 2-year-old boy drowned in a creek.

Peter Roberts, 25, was driving his son, Ayden, to school around 8 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he began to drift off the road, officials said, New York Daily News reports.

But the Borden-based man over-corrected and ran straight into oncoming traffic, consisting of two vehicles being driven in the opposite direction, said Scottie Maples, a Clark County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, WAVE reports.

Janie Miller, who lives near the site of the accident on Highway 60, said her sister called 911 to report the accident.

This young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.

"The dad got out of the car and said, 'Where's my boy?' [He] said he had been asleep in the back seat and the back of the car was gone," Miller said, according to WLKY. "It was on the other side of the road."

Ayden was immediately taken to Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, located about 20 miles from the site of the accident. The little boy later died of his injuries.

His father and the other two drivers involved in the wreck all sustained injuries, said the sheriff's office, Daily Mail reports. They have since been treated and released from the hospital.

The impact of the collision was strong enough to break Roberts' white Chevy Impala in two.

Miller is not acquainted with the Roberts family, but had learned of the tragic drowning of their 2-year-old son, William.

She said: "I don't even think anyone wants to try and think about how bad it would be. It's too much for one family to bear."

William had wandered off his family's property in late January by himself and was reported missing around 2:30 p.m., when Julia Roberts, his mother, said he disappeared when she looked away for just a moment, Daily Mail reports.

His body was discovered around 2 a.m on Jan. 22, following a 12-hour search.

He had drowned in a creek near his home.

Clark County Prosecutor Jeremy Mill had then stated no criminal charges would be filed against his parents.

"Under these circumstances, it's my belief as a prosecutor this was a tragic accident," he said, adding: "I don't feel that criminal charges are warranted in this situation. I think these parents are experiencing every parent's worst nightmare."

Police are currently investigating the crash.
