The Texas 'Knockout Game' Sucker Punch Case

| by Lina Batarags

HOUSTON – Someone wasn’t taught to respect his elders.

On November 24, Conrad Alvin Barrett, a white 27-year-old, punched an elderly black man in an unprovoked attack. The 79-year-old victim’s jaw was broken in two places.

According to investigators’ reports, Barrett “laughed and shouted ‘knockout’ as the man fell to the ground.”

Barrett taped the attack on his cellphone – and proceeded to share the video. He was arrested on December 26.

Barrett's defense attorney has stated that Barrett has bipolar disorder and “was off his medication when the attack occurred.” He is currently in custody, with a court hearing scheduled for next week, where he will face a federal hate crime charge.
