An Irish waiter received the surprise of his life when a customer tipped him $750 to take his new family to Ireland for the holidays.

Ben Millar, 22, was attending to diners in a Houston, Texas, restaurant when he received the outstanding gratuity.

The waiter's girlfriend, Taryn Keith, who is eight months pregnant, posted a picture of the $122.87 tab on Facebook that features a message from the customer, The Huffington Post reports. The post has since gone viral.

According to Independent.ie, Keith says the act couldn't have happened to a "better guy."

The Belfast man had been planning to take Keith and their son, Killian, once born, to Ireland to introduce his new family to his relatives. He shared his story with the customer amidst chit-chat about the Irish rock band U2.

"The customer informed Ben that he had just been in Ireland to see the band. Ben, jokingly said, 'Wow, I wish I could go back there for a weekend and visit my family,' thinking nothing of it," said Keith.

When Millar went to pick up the bill after the customer left, he was surprised to discover the diner had left him a sizeable $750 tip, along with a hand-written note saying: "Hopefully, this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays".

Millar never got the opportunity to thank the customer personally for the generous gesture as the diner, whose name is reportedly Jeffrey, left the establishment quickly.

The couple hopes news of the diner's generosity via the media will reach him so that he can learn how much his gift meant to them.

Keith said the family hopes to travel to Ireland soon after their son is born.

"The due date is January 20 so we will be heading to Ireland as soon as my son is old enough to fly," she said.
"I think it's a blessing and it couldn't have happened to a better guy than him. He works really hard.

"He's pretty stressed right now with money and the baby coming, so this just made his whole year. It's good to know that there are kind people in the world."
