Houston Athlete J.J. Watt Sends Pizza To Local Law Officials (Photo)

When the Houston Texans honored the U.S. military on Sunday with their annual Salute to Service, athlete J.J. Watt decided to take his dedication one step further and send local law officials Papa John’s pizzas and a handwritten letter.

“I just wanted to send y’all a small token of my appreciation for everything you do,” Watt said. “My dad and uncle were both firefighters, so I spent a lot of time around the firehouse when I was younger and gained a great deal of respect for both firefighters and the police force.”

Watt added that athletes are often in the headlines, but that military men and women are the ones who truly deserve credit, appreciation and admiration.

“I know it’s not much, but please enjoy lunch on me today,” Watt wrote.

To express their gratitude, officers and firefighters posted pictures of the pizza and Watt’s note to Twitter.

Sporting News noted that there’s often a lot of negativity surrounding athletes’ actions, but that it was refreshing to see such an act of charity.
