Tennessee Man Arrested For Lawn Mower DUI—Twice

A Murfreesboro, Tenn. man has been arrested for drunk driving his lawn mower—for the second time in less than a week.

48-year-old Patrick Moore was spotted riding his lawn mower through his neighborhood not far from his home, WKRN reports.

“The subject appeared to be unsteady, bobbing back and forth while seated on the lawn mower,” the arresting officer wrote. “Mr. Moore failed to perform field sobriety test as explained and demonstrated to him. Mr. Moore also admitted to drinking one beer.”

Moore was charged with a DUI—his fourth—and driving on a revoked license, a second offense.

Last week a neighbor called the cops when he discovered Moore mowing his lawn.

“He just pulled in and started cutting,” said Jim Glover, who lives next door to that neighbor’s home. “When we came back, we thought they had hired him, but they hadn't. He was just cutting the grass.”

Glover said some he didn’t think the situation was one to laugh about.

“I didn't think it was funny. I thought he is going to run over some kid,” he said.

Moore’s stepdaughter, Caroline Burkhart, told News 2 that she hopes the arrests will encourage her stepfather to stop drinking.

“We just really want him to get better because it's starting to get out of hand,” Burkhart said. “He's been in rehab before for it and he was doing really good because he didn't drink for almost a year and then he sort of relapsed.”

She won’t be bailing him out of jail, she says—not this time.

“He has gotten out of hand again and him being in jail, we hope he will take the time to realize that he needs to get his life under control,” Burkhart said.

Moore was booked into Rutherford County jail. He is being held there on $16,500 bond.
