Birmingham teenager Manny Edwards was running to catch a late night bus when he ran into a bus stop and died. For obvious reasons, police are calling this a freak accident.
The 18-year-old was reportedly racing toward the bus station at around 10:30 p.m. on Monday night. He is said to have collapsed when he hit the stop at Hillmeads Road. According to witness accounts, he attempted to get to his feet, but then fell over again seconds later.
Passersby alerted authorities and Edwards was taken to a hospital. On the way to the hospital, paramedics performed CPR and first aid, but Edwards was pronounced dead shortly after.
“It’s shocking a young man could lose his life in such circumstances,” Detective Chief Inspector Simon Inglis said.
Inglis denied rumors that foul play was involved in Edwards’ death.
"I can assure people that is certainly not the case," Inglis said.
According to police, a post mortem examination will take place in due course.
