Alex Desalis, 16, of Dallas, Georgia, died on Nov. 22, the day after falling off the hood of his friend’s Jeep, while it was moving, and being run over.

Though police say he was car surfing, his parents dispute that claim and say he was likely "twerking" on the car.

Alex’s mother, Michelle Guthrie, told WTSP that she doesn’t want her son’s friend to face charges.

"I don't want probation. I don't want her in jail. It was an accident,” she said. "We feel more bad for the family -- for what they're going through as well."

Alex’s father, Kenneth Guthrie, agreed.

"It wasn't a car-surfing adventure,” he said. “It was him climbing up on his friend’s [vehicle] -- the hood of her car, on all fours -- more than likely being funny, trying to get a laugh by twerking.”

"I don't think we'll ever know what proceeded before he fell off," Michelle told WSB-TV 2.

Michelle said her son was a funny teen.

“If he saw somebody who was having a bad day, Alex felt it was his job to make their day better -- to make them laugh," she said.

The family has set up an online fundraising campaign to cover the cost of Alex’s funeral. As of Nov. 24, it has raised $2,450 of its $5,000 goal.

WSBTV reported that charges are pending against the driver.
