Family Member Accidentally Runs Over Teen Girl In The Driveway

| by Lisa Fogarty

A high school cheerleader was reportedly killed this weekend while sunbathing on her driveway by a family member who didn’t see her as he backed his car out of the garage.

Marli Hamblin, 15, had just made the cut as a member of the Syracuse High School cheerleading squad and was enjoying the summer before her freshman year by taking in the sun outside her home in Syracuse, Utah on Friday afternoon, reports Daily Mail. She had her headphones on and was listening to her iPod when a family member reportedly backed his Chevy truck out of the driveway where she was relaxing.

Not realizing that she was there, the man allegedly drove over Marli and left her with a critical head injury, reports KUTV. She was rushed to the hospital and placed in a medically-induced coma. Sadly, her family announced through Facebook on Sunday night that she had died.

“Our precious Marli is home with her heavenly father,” read a post on a page called Miracle for Marli. “Please continue prayers of comfort for this family during this time.”

Prior to the announcement that she had lost her battle, Syracuse Police Officer Erin Behm described the scene as tragic: “It’s not an easy case for everybody involved – the officers, firemen, the paramedics,” Behm said.

Marli was the third of five children who loved to play piano, according to her family and friends. A GoFundMe page has been set up and, so far, over $7,000 has been raised to help the family with medical expenses.

“There’s just no words that can describe it or explain it at this point,” said Lance Hamblin, Marli’s cousin and a LDS bishop. “My phone hasn’t quit, people just wanting to help, wanting to do something.”
