A former Louisiana junior high school teacher has pleaded guilty to having sex with a 15-year-old male student.
Kaylyn Huval, 28, pleaded guilty to one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, KATC reports.
Her sentence of 10 years in prison was suspended. Instead, Huval will have five years of supervised probation. While on probation, Huval will have to attend sex offender counseling and must refrain from being around juveniles that are not family members.
She is required to pay court costs and a fine of $2,500, and must register as a sex offender. Additionally, Huval must remain employed during her probation, is prohibited from going to bars, and cannot own a computer, according to the plea agreement.
She wll not be permitted to teach again.
A lawsuit was filed by the mother of the teen boy in February against Cecilia Junior High School’s St. Martin Parish School System and Huval, KATC reported.
The lawsuit claims that Huval "would create situations and scenarios in which she would keep the minor student in the classroom after the other students in the class were dismissed ... and create environments in which she and the minor student ... would thereby actively engage in sexual activity which included ... acts of touching, kissing, hugging, all the way up to acts of oral and sexual intercourse."
The boy’s mother states in the lawsuit that the sexual relationship her son had with Huval has caused him mental and emotional problems. It seeks damages for pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, embarrassment and humiliation.
When Huval was charged in March 2015 with carnal knowledge of a juvenile, the court’s bill of information states that the sex she had with the 15-year-old boy was “with consent.”
