Teacher Who Had Sex With 3 Students Is Denied Parole

| by David Bonner

Brianne Land Altice, a former Utah high school teacher jailed for having sex with three of her students, was denied release on Jan. 31.

The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole ruled that she will have to spend at least two more years behind bars, reports the New York Post.

Altice, 37, was sentenced in 2015 to two to 30 years in prison on three felony counts of forcible sex abuse. The board ordered her to attend a sex offender treatment program before her next hearing in April 2019.

She was arrested in October 2013 after a 16-year-old student reported having a sexual relationship with her, including one liaison in a church parking lot, the Daily Mail reports. Two 17-year-old boys subsequently came forward with the same accusation.

On Jan. 24, Altice appeared before the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole and took full responsibility for her actions. "This was no one's fault but my own," she admitted. "I clearly lost sight of all my values and principles and was seeking inappropriate means to address my own issues," The Salt Lake Tribune quoted her as saying.

"There's no justification for it," she continued. "This was no one else's fault but my own. This was not my ex-husband's fault, or the school's fault, or my students' fault. These were my poor, poor decisions. I'm very aware of it now and I am very remorseful. I regret the decisions I made that brought us here."

Teacher sex scandals are have become so commonplace that the website Zimbio published a popular article entitled "The 50 Most Infamous Female Teacher Sex Scandals."

Topping the list is Mary Kay Letourneau, the teacher jailed for having an affair in 1997 with one of her sixth grade students, whom she ended up marrying upon her release from prison in 2004.
