Felicia Barahona, a 32-year-old teacher at DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, reportedly got pregnant with a student’s child after discouraging him from using condoms during sex.
The special commissioner of investigation, Richard Condon, revealed their romance, which began at Barahona’s home on the boy’s 18th birthday, in a report after the New York Daily News filed a freedom of information request.
Barahona gave birth to the child in August and was subsequently fired. Her relationship with the student started during the fall of 2011 and lasted approximately four months, during which the two had sex “about five times a week, on weekdays and on weekends,” according to the report.
The report also stated that Barahona “didn’t like condoms” and told the student “not to worry” when he tried to use them.
Despite the supposedly unintended nature of the pregnancy, Barahona’s partner told investigators he accompanied her to doctor’s appointments when she found out she was pregnant. Barahona reportedly bought wedding rings for both of them with the hope that they would marry, but they broke up after an argument in early 2012.
