Taylor Swift garnered criticism for a photo of her and actress Ruby Rose holding an American flag.
Swift took to Instagram to share a photo of her and Rose sliding down an inflatable slide while holding an American flag. The photo was shared during Swift’s July 4 party, and instantly garnered criticism for its portrayal of the flag.
“How rude…to the flag,” one commenter wrote. “For real.”
“Check your flag rules,” another added.
The American flag, the commenters said, should not have been held in the position that it was in Swift's photo. The flags are traditionally meant to be hung as a sign of respect for the men and women who fight for the United States.
The controversy came following "The Big Bang Theory" star Kaley Cuoco’s own Instagram scandal in which she shared a photo of her dogs standing on an American flag, as noted on Elite Daily.
“I would like to comment on a photo I posted yesterday, that has caused lots of controversy. First off, please know, I have the utmost respect for my country. I am a proud American in every sense of the word. I understand the American flag stands for our freedom and represents American heroes, past and present,” Cuoco wrote in a follow-up apology.
“Yesterday I made a mistake by posting the picture that was taken of my sweet dogs posing on an American flag. I sincerely apologize to anyone that has been offended by my previous post. This is no way reflects my feelings toward what the American flag represents. Living in the public eye, can be extremely difficult at times. Every mistake and every imperfection is amplified. I am not perfect. I am a proud American, today, tomorrow, always.”
