When Michael Turner saw a man stabbing a 16-year-old girl inside a Pennsylvania Target store, he stopped the attack with the help of two other men (video below).

The victim, Allison Meadows, says she considers Turner her hero.

But Target doesn't agree, and now the retail giant is suing the Pennsylvania man for allegedly putting other customers in danger when he intervened and saved Allison on March 25, 2013, according to ABC affiliate WTVC.

"I thank him," Allison told the TV news station. "I thank him every time I see him."

Her attacker, Leon Walls, is serving up to 20 years in prison for the stabbing after he was convicted of attempted homicide and aggravated assault in a 2015 jury trial.

Surveillance footage of the incident shows Walls attacking Allison at the store's checkout line, then dragging the terrified teen away from her family and brandishing a knife to ward off anyone who tried to intervene. As Walls backed away, Turner came running up from behind and tackled him. The confrontation wasn't over, however, and it took several people helping Turner to finally get Walls to release his grip on Allison.

"It was the most gut-wrenching thing I've ever had to watch," Glen Meadows, the victim's father, told ABC affiliate WTAE.

Target has filed lawsuits against Turner and two other men who helped subdue Walls, according to WTVC. The other two men have hired legal counsel, but the station said Turner is defending himself. The store says Walls was running from bystanders and police after he stabbed another person, and would not have run into the Target store -- and subsequently tried to harm Allison -- if the bystanders hadn't been chasing him.
