Sunny The White House Dog Knocks Over Little Girl As Michelle Obama Unveils Christmas Decorations

| by

First lady Michelle Obama had her hands full on Wednesday night as she not only spoke to military families in front of the White House Christmas tree, but also had to keep energetic Sunny, the White House dog, at bay.

While the family dog Bo is usually the star of the White House holiday displays, he had to share the spotlight this year with his sister Sunny, who ran to greet a two-year-old and accidently knocked her over.

Michelle Obama had to restrain Sunny as visitor, Ashtyn Gardner, got back on her feet. The first lady hugged Gardner after she fell over. The toddler from Mobile, Ala., was attending the holiday arts-and-crafts event for military families.

The event was part of a viewing of the White House’s 2013 holiday decorations for military families.

Mrs. Obama revealed this year’s official holiday theme through Twitter to be “Gather Around: Stories of the Season,” in honor of stories and traditions that “bring us together this special time of year.”

Among the highlights of this year’s decorations are two life-seized replicas of Bo and Sunny made of satin ribbons and the Blue Room tree dedicated to military families and decorated with photos of their homecomings.

The First Lady said she wants Americans to never forget the debt they owe service members and their families for the sacrifices they make in serving the country.
