A Georgia high school is under fire after a student was reportedly forced to perform a hazing act in a locker room at Roswell’s Centennial High School.
According to reports, a photo of the hazing incident shows a student eating a pickle off of another student’s butt. The students involved are reportedly part of the school’s soccer team, and reports say that the team was suspended for four games. Reports also say that the hazing happened after the student forced to eat the pickle refused to shave his head, which was part of a team tradition.
“Whoa, that's pretty gross,” Ira Gorelick, a local resident, told CBS 46 News. “It's critical for kids, especially at this age, to know where the lines are drawn and this crosses the line.”
The school district released a statement saying that they handled the issue and took it “very seriously.”
“The district took this very seriously,” a school spokeswoman said in a statement. “It may have been a joke for the teenagers, but we expect our students to make better decisions. The hope is that the students learn from the situation and make better decisions in the future.”
While the situation seems to have been handled, some people are continuing to criticize the district.
“That's abuse, that's assault, that's that boys body," parent Carol Ryczek said. "No way should we tolerate that as a school, a neighborhood, a culture, a state, a nation.”
“That's intolerable,” Paul Ryczek added, “and I think it has to be from the school and the parents' standpoint, something that has to be enforced.”
