The mother of actor and comedian Steve Carell passed away Saturday, one day before Mother's Day.
The Oscar-nominated actor announced the news on Twitter, according to the Associated Press.
"Harriet Theresa Carell. October 15, 1925 – May 7, 2016. Love you mom," he wrote.
Harriet Carell was 90 years old. She died peacefully in her home surrounded by friends and family, according to Acton Funeral Home director Kathleen Doran Boyle.
Harriet, wife of Edwin, is survived by her four children, Gregory, Michael, Timothy and Steve, and her six grandchildren, Patch reports.
Carell spoke to the Guardian in 2013 about his parents:
My parents were middle class. I saw how hard they worked for the money that they earned. They spoiled us in terms of their devotion to us. I wanted to play ice hockey and it required a lot of equipment, but they made it happen…. I learned a lot about raising children from them, because they were so committed to their kids, they would do anything to expand our horizons. I don't think I appreciated it at the time, but I do now.
