South African news sources are reporting that a man brutally killed his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in a rage of jealousy, and the details surrounding the killing are deeply disturbing.

According to reports, the suspect stabbed 62-year-old Mbuyiselo Manona to death before using a knife and fork to feast on his heart. The suspect had allegedly been hired by Manona to install new windows in his house, unaware that the man used to date his girlfriend and was actually planning to murder him.

When authorities arrived at Manona’s home in Gugulethu, a township near Cape Town, they were shocked to discover the unnamed man eating the victim’s heart with dinner cutlery. The suspect had stabbed Manona in his chest and neck and even bit off the side of his face before eating his heart.

“On the scene officers found a suspect, a Zimbabwean, eating the heart of a human with a knife and fork,” said police captain Frederick van Wyck in a statement. “Police were informed that the victim had been stabbed on the left side of his chest and in his neck, and had a bite mark on the right side of his face.”

Shocked neighbors who witnessed the brutal killing say that the suspect killed Manona in a fit of jealousy.

“When we got to the house the man kept muttering ‘I am the king’ and declaring his undying love for the woman,” said a witness. “He then cut the heart out and ate it before the police came and took him away.”

Western Cape Deputy Police Commissioner Sharon Jephta called the murder “gruesome” and was quick to add that it appears to definitely have been “a love triangle.”

The suspect is set to be formally charged later this week.
