Skydiver’s GoPro Camera Captures Terrifying Moment Parachute Fails To Open (Video)

A viral video captures the horrifying moment a Canadian skydiver’s parachute fails at 3,000 feet, sending him plummeting to the ground in a violent spin.

“The 27-year-old was on a jump from 14,000 feet near Sydney, Australia when the lines on his parachute became tangled,” according to the YouTube video description.

Today’s parachutes have a three-ring release system that allows for fast emergency cutaways. So the quick-thinking skydiver cut the tangled chute free in mid-air before deploying the reserve and safely landing on the ground.

“Under normal circumstances it’s not very difficult to cut away your main parachute,” the unidentified skydiver told the Daily Mail. “However, this was far from a normal situation. Someone else had hooked half my gear up incorrectly, and I missed it.”

The skydiver, who has jumped about 2,000 times before, added: “But I took my time, as you can see in the video, I worked out all the scenarios, and then fixed it before my time ran out.”

According to BarcroftTV, the man did two more jumps without problems during this skydiving trip.

“Have you ever seen ‘The Shawshank Redemption’?” he said. “Remember the scene when Tim Robbins climbs through a sewage pipe and comes out clean on the other side and he raises up his arms into the rain? Surviving this felt something like that.”
