Zoe Turner, 21, has her skin-tight bodycon dress to thank for saving her life after a severe car crash that left the young woman and three of her friends with life-threatening injuries.

Turner, a college student, spent $42.53 on a red bodycon dress from an online retailer to wear to a Christmas party at her mother’s job on December 13. The college student left the party with three friends in the early hours of the 14th and proceeded to call a taxi to take them home.

Not long into the ride, a cement truck collided with the cab. The driver’s head went through the car windshield, while Turner’s friends were left unconscious. Turner was in the front passenger seat and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Firefighters rushed to the scene, cutting the car open and removing the passengers. Turner was brought to a nearby hospital, where she underwent a CT scan. She suffered a fractured pelvis, a broken sternum, and fractured vertebrae.

Despite the injuries, doctors told Turner that it could have been a lot worse if it hadn’t been for her tight dress. According to Mirror Online, the dress “acted like an old-fashioned corset and stopped her bones popping out and perforating her vital organs,” preventing fatal internal injuries.

"The doctors told me that if I hadn't worn such a tight dress which held in place my bones as the car impacted, I would have most definitely punctured vital organs as my bones went out of place,” Turner said. “I couldn't believe my dress saved my life. That's the best £35 [$42.53] I've ever spent.”

Turner said the pain she suffered from the collision was particularly excruciating because of how tight her dress was, and she struggled to free herself from the taxi.

“The pain and restriction my dress was causing was unbearable and I stumbled out of the car,” she recalled. “I thought everyone else was dead. I was in so much shock I didn't realise [sic] how serious my injuries were.”

Remarkably, Turner’s friends and the taxi driver all survived the horrifying accident. The driver suffered a broken neck, while the friends’ injuries included broken arms and eye sockets. Turner was released from the hospital on December 18.

“I am lucky to be alive,” Turner said. “The thought of not having worn that dress makes me shudder.”
