Size 18 Woman Denied Entry Into Luxurious Nightclub Because Of Her Size

| by Jonathan Constante

A woman and her friends were denied entry into an Ashford nightclub in Kent, England for being overweight.

Amy Pitcher, 27, went out for a night on the town with a couple of her friends. They decided to visit Cameo Ashford nightclub for its grand reopening weekend on Saturday, December 6. When they reached the doorman, they were told that their “size and style didn’t go with the image” the nightclub wanted to promote.

Pitcher, who was donning an orange dress and sparkly heels, was “shocked” and “embarrassed.”

“I couldn’t believe it,” Pitcher told Mirror Online. “I was completely shocked, I just stared at him and said ‘oh.’

“I am a size 18 and my friend is a 20,” she added. “I was dressed appropriately and so were my friends.”

Pitcher and her friends decided not to make any trouble that night. They walked away and took their business elsewhere.

“We had a good rant about them when we left and just tried to enjoy the rest of the night as best we could but it completely ruined our evening,” she said. “I mean it’s not like we’re going to eat all the furniture and drink all the drinks.”

Pitcher noted that they weren’t the only ones turned away from the nightclub because of their appearance.

Pitcher decided to send an email to the manager of the nightclub. She got no response but once word got out about her story, the club quickly offered Pitcher and her friends a complimentary night out on them.

General manager Fred Shingler said that the club “did not refuse entry on grounds of weight.” Shingler went on to say that the club was full to capacity that night and that they “operate a strict dress code.”

Pitcher, who has been a member of the Slimming World diet plan for two years, still couldn’t believe the luxurious nightclub would go to such lengths to “maintain standards.”

“I was shocked and upset because they were making judgement on the appearance of people’s sizes when I know from personal struggle how difficult it is to be accepted,” Pitcher said. “Just because someone is skinny or prettier doesn’t mean they are nice people or not going to cause trouble in the club.

“Everybody is an individual; I mean the average size of the population is size 16.”
