A single mother in California accidently slipped an extra dollar into a self-service Lotto machine at a local drug store and ended up with a winning ticket worth $14 million.
Thuan Le usually buys $4 worth of Powerball tickets and a $1 SuperLotto Plus ticket at her Mission Viejo CVS store. When she mistakenly put in $6, she decided to buy an extra SuperLotto Plus ticket, which incidentally hit the jackpot.
“Thuan Le is a hardworking single mother of four sons,” the California Lottery said in a release. “She is also very excitable. In fact, when she ran her SuperLotto Plus ticket through the terminal and realized she had won a $14 million jackpot, she ran screaming out of the store!”
Her sons thought she was kidding when she told them she won $14 million. “We thought she was joking, but we thought would she really joke like this? My older brother said, 'yes, she would,'" a son to Lotto officials.
Le says she plans to buy a home and visit her parents in Vietnam.
CVS Pharmacy will receive a bonus of $70,000 for selling the winning ticket.
