A 46-year-old man in southern Germany faces the prospect of prison time after a sex game went badly wrong.

Salesman Oliver Dietmann is accused of negligent homicide in the death of his lover, Rica Varna, 46, in July 2014, according to media reports.

The couple had been having an affair for five years.

Dietmann and Varna met during the afternoon at Dietmann’s apartment while his wife and daughter were out of town. They drank several bottles of wine and some schnapps.

They then moved into Dietmann’s study.

“We would often use dildos as well as carrots and zucchinis in our sex life,” Dietmann said in court, according to The Local.

Varna did not have any toys with her, so Dietmann brought a cucumber from the kitchen and used it to pleasure her.

“I put it in her mouth. But suddenly I saw there was smoke coming from the kitchen. I forgot that I had put a piece of meat on the stove for my dog,” he added, according to Daily Mail.

“I ran to the kitchen, fed my dog and then went on to the balcony to smoke a cigarette,” Dietmann told the court.

When he returned, Varna was no longer breathing and the cucumber had become lodged in her throat. Medical experts later said she fell into a coma.

“I tried to get the cucumber pieces out of her mouth,” Dietmann added, “but they were so mushy I couldn't get any purchase at all.”

Tests on Varna’s body revealed she had a level of alcohol in her blood four times higher than the legal driving limit.

A ruling in the case is expected Feb. 26 from the court in Mannheim.

“The defendant must have known that he should not have left her for so long on her own,” prosecutor Reinhard Hoffmann said.

If found guilty, Dietmann could spend five years in jail.
