An airline will refund a man it made pay change fees after he tried to rush home upon learning his family had died in a fire.

Dr. Muhammad Taufiq Al Sattar, a Dublin-based neurosurgeon regularly flew home to Leicester, England, on weekends to see his family, but after learning of a tragic fire that killed his wife and three children, he rushed to the airport to try and fly home earlier than usual.

According to BBC News, Sattar told the Irish Daily Mail that tears were streaming down his face as he tried to explain to staff at Dublin airport why he needed to change to an earlier flight to Birmingham. However, the doctor said he was told by check-in staff that he would have to pay to change his booking.

"I thought, given the circumstances, they might just let me transfer flights, as I had already paid for a return fare," Sattar said.
