Rick Santorum Tells Immigrant To Leave Country, Return (Video)

| by Michael Allen

Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum advised a woman whose parents brought her to the U.S. when she was 7, to leave the U.S. and apply to return, on Dec. 6 (video below).

Elizabeth Vilchis, a mechanical engineer, asked Santorum on CNN for his advice about what to do if the incoming Trump administration ends President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy that allows her to stay.

"My career will come to an end if that program ends and I will also potentially be labeled for deportation, which means that I am going to be removed from the communities that I’ve contributed to so much," Vilchis told Santorum.

Santorum recalled how his father had to wait in Italy until he was seven years old, per U.S. law at the time, before he could come to the U.S. and be with Santorum's grandfather.

This young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.

Santorum then advised Vilchis to return to her country of birth:

I think what most people in America feel is that you’ve been given a tremendous benefit by being here in this country. You've just described something that, I don't know what country your parents came from, but my guess is you wouldn’t have had the opportunities to be able to accomplish what you have.

My final point is that you have the ability to go to any other country right now and apply those wares, and be successful, and then reapply to come back to America if you so choose.

Ana Navarro, a Republican supporter of Jeb Bush, told Vilchis: "First of all, this is your country. No matter what he says, no matter what anybody else says, this is your country."

Santorum countered: "That’s not what the law says, not what the law says."

The Huffington Post noted several responses to Santorum on Twitter:

[Santorum] did you actually just tell someone they have to leave OUR country? who do you think you are?

Watching Rick Santorum telling an accomplished, educated Dreamer that this isn’t her country is utterly disgusting.

[I] wonder how [Santorum] would feel if when his family immigrated here, they were told 2 go back to their country.

Rick Santorum told the girl to take her engineering education and go back to Mex while Trump is still hiring foreign workers.

I'll chip in good money to send Santorum to another country. Any country.
