Richard Dawkins Says 'Bin Laden Has Won' After Airport Security Took His Honey

| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins was mocked on the Internet Sunday, after he declared that al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden won because airport security confiscated a jar of honey from his carry-on.

“Bin Laden has won, in airports of the world every day. I had a little jar of honey, now thrown away by rule-bound dundridges. STUPID waste,” the atheist professor tweeted.

The term “dundridge” is apparently a word Dawkins invented himself, meaning “a petty, bossy, bureaucratic little rule-hound.”

It’s unclear exactly where Dawkins was travelling, but airports across the globe have limits on the amount of liquid one can carry through airport security.

Much of Twitter was not sympathetic to his plight.

“I'm not sure that Bin Laden's number one target was your honey jar, but yeah, he kinda won,” wrote one user.

“Al Qaeda's longterm goal of forcing @RichardDawkins to lessen his sugar intake has finally borne fruit. Praise Allah!” wrote another.

“If it was a little jar it was only a little waste,” noted one man.

Dawkins responded: “Are you carpers really too thick to see the difference between a matter of general principle and a petty concern with a single jar of honey?”

Some felt that if they can follow the liquids restrictions, then Dawkins can do it, too.

“You could have just read the rules properly and not kept it in your hand luggage...” tweeted one woman.

“Of course I know the airport security rules,” Dawkins responded. “My point is those rules are stupid advertising displays of dundridge zeal. Bin Laden has won.”

“Probably explains why airport security staff have so few Nobel prizes,” quipped one man.

In August, Dawkins sparked outrage for the anti-Islamic comment: “All the world’s Muslims have fewer Nobel Prizes than Trinity College, Cambridge. They did great things in the Middle Ages, though.”
