Restaurant Donates To Women’s Crisis Line After Sexist Yelp Review, Gets Even More Sexist Review

After a Yelp user left a sexist comment on a Portland, Oregon, restaurant’s page, the owner decided to donate August proceeds from its popular $5 grilled cheese sandwiches to a domestic violence crisis line.

Yelp user Lee M. who gave EastBurn a 5-star review wrote: "My friend and I picked up some hot girls here, but he got his pregnant. But she was Canadian so she went home and got a free abortion so it's all cool now. You can get grilled cheeses here for $5."

“5 star to you Lee M. for making an example of how this kind of disrespect toward women is shameful and not at all funny,” owner Mike Bender said.

“As a kind thank you for spotlighting this behavior, all proceeds through August from the sale of Eastburn’s Grilled Cheeses will go to the Portland Women’s Crisis Line,” he added.

"It just seemed like a good thing to do," Bender told The Oregonian. "We do a lot of benefits here and thought it was a good opportunity to give back...It's [disrespect towards women] especially pervasive in the restaurant industry and it's not cool."

But it looks like Bender hasn’t managed to stop the sexist reviews on the restaurant’s Yelp page.

A new 1-star review posted to Yelp today by Wu H. says: “This place has the best Abortion sandwiches in town! There are plenty of hos to slap around when you get done taking a dump on the salad bar. The midget tossing contests are fun too!”
