Police have reportedly killed more Americans since Christmas 2015 than law enforcement in the UK have killed since 2011.

The Free Thought Project cited Inquest.org.uk, an online data base that notes the number of people killed by law enforcement in the UK. There were two killings in 2011, one in 2012, none in 2013, one in 2014 and three in 2015.

In sharp contrast, The Free Thought Project noted that 14 people had been killed by U.S. cops since Christmas 2015, per the database KilledByPolice.net, but that number has actually grown to 17.

The most recent police killing was on Dec. 31, 2015, in Las Vegas where officers shot and killed a man whom they falsely believed had a gun, but in reality was holding a cell phone, notes the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Metro Capt. Matt McCarthy said the man didn't obey officers when they told him to show his hands and drop what he was holding, so the cops opened fire. The man was reportedly wanted in Arizona for attempted murder.

The shooting was the 16th in 2015 that involved Las Vegas officers; 11 of those shootings took lives.

The Free Thought Project notes that China reportedly had 14 killings by police in 2014, and only nine in 2015.

According to The Counted, an online database maintained by The Guardian, U.S. police killed 1134 Americans in 2015.
