Fred DuVal, a Phoenix businessman, who wants to be the Democratic nominee for governor of Arizona, reportedly changed a photo of himself to make his skin look darker and Hispanic.

DuVal did the picture stunt in response to the state Republican Party, which has called him the “The World’s Most Uninteresting Man,” a play on a Dos Equis beer ad, notes the Arizona Daily Independent.

The Dos Equis beer ad uses the tag line: “The World’s Most Interesting Man.”

The Arizona GOP responded to the photoshopped picture with scorn: “DuVal digitally morphed himself to resemble the person pictured here, put the doctored image out on Twitter and hand-delivered a printed copy to the AZGOP. Painful attempts at humor, especially with racial overtones, usually backfire on candidates.”

DuVal said in a  press release that he is flattered by all the attention the Republicans are giving him and wanted to show them that he’s a “good sport.”

“As a Latino, I was not offended at all by the allusion to the Dos Equis commercial guy,” said Jose Borrajero of the Arizona Latino Republican Association, but then added: “It was a very stupid prank by someone who wants to be taken seriously as a gubernatorial candidate.”
