90-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Hedy Epstein Arrested Amid Ferguson Protest

A 90-year-old Holocaust survivor was arrested Monday in Missouri as she marched outside Gov. Jay Nixon’s office protesting the deployment of the National Guard to Ferguson.

Hedy Epstein was among demonstrators who linked arms in from of the St. Louis building entrance Monday. Eight protesters were arrested when they failed to disperse.

A reporter from The Nation, Steven Hsieh, tweeted a photo of the nonagenarian being led away in handcuffs.

“I’ve been doing this since I was a teenager. I didn’t think I would have to do it when I was 90,” she told The Nation during her arrest. “We need to stand up today so that people won’t have to do this when they’re 90.”

Epstein is a well-known support of Palestine and the Free Gaza Movement.
