A British couple planning to tie the knot in the Welsh capital of Cardiff was bumped from City Hall when President Barack Obama snagged the rooms for leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
After seven years together, Christie Connolly, 25, and Sam Holland, 28, booked their dream venue for their September wedding, until the NATO banquet rolled into town.
“So Barack Obama stole our wedding venue today,” Holland tweeted on Thursday. “Christie had a letter this morning saying that City Hall is no longer available as Obama and his staff are coming to Cardiff on that date, and have baggsied it for the whole weekend. CHAAAAANGE the wedding venue!”
"I thought: 'We haven't got the money to make new plans, and it's a little bit late as we've already booked stuff,'" Connolly told WalesOnline.
But City Hall staff saved the day, offering to have their wedding at the nearby Lord Mayor's Mansion House instead.
The couple says there are no hard feelings.
"I emailed the White House saying, 'You, your wife and your secret service guys are welcome to come down for a bit of cake!'" Connolly said. "And if he wants to pay for the wedding off the back of it, well I'm more than happy!"
