Man Arrested For Murdering Child On Her Way To Church

| by David Bonner

Illinois State Police arrested a 53-year-old man on Nov. 27 for the rape and murder of 8-year-old Sabrina Stauffenberg.

Sabrina’s body was found Nov. 23 behind a vinegar plant in Olney, Illinois, reports the Daily Mail. The National Vinegar Company has been in business since 1854, according to the corporate website.

Sabrina was last seen alive on her front porch, waiting for a bus to take her to church. When the bus was late, she called her grandmother, who reportedly did not answer. When her grandmother called back later, there was no response from Sabrina. Her cell phone signal was used by police to locate her body.

The suspect, Glen R. Ramey, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and predatory sexual assault.

Denise Haley, a neighborhood friend of the victim's family, said Ramey had been dating a relative of Sabrina’s. The girl's stepmother told the Daily Mail that Ramey is a friend of the child's father.

Haley, who alleged that Ramey has mental health issues, thanked law enforcement for taking him into custody. “We’re just glad they caught the real killer, and now this family can mourn the loss of this beautiful child,” she said, sounding confident that Ramey committed the crime.

A GoFundMe campaign launched by Haley has so far raised over $5,400 for Sabrina’s funeral expenses.

Although Ramey is not listed on the state’s sex offender registry, he does have a record of allegedly abusing women, reports the Belleville News-Democrat.
