A 14-year-old high school freshman with a promising future took his own life after being caught throwing a party with some of his friends.
Reagan Austin Beene of Milton, Ga., was found dead by his sister. The teen was apparently outgoing, popular and well-liked, so his suicide came as a shock to his community. Reports claim that Reagan, along with some of his friends, were recently charged with underage drinking after police broke up a house party that the teens had thrown. He committed suicide just one day after being charged.
Schoolmates mourned over their friend’s untimely death and made a memorial outside of their school. Beene was a rising star on the football field as a freshman and also played lacrosse for his high school.
Cambridge High School Principal Ed Spurka sent a notice to families regarding Beene’s death.
“We express our deepest sympathy to the Beene family; our thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of grief,” wrote Spurka. “Tonight and in the coming days, I encourage you to talk to your children about their feelings and experiences and encourage them to seek support from our counseling staff if appropriate.”
Friends took to social media to express their shock and sadness over the loss of Beene, with Twitter user @threebusybees saying what most are probably thinking, “It always comes back to the WHY? #RIPReaganBeene.”
Beene left behind his parents, two older sisters and younger brother. It has not been confirmed that the suicide had anything to do with the charges he was facing.
