Police In India Gang-Rape Woman At Police Station

| by Jonathan Wolfe

An Indian woman was raped by three police officers in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The incident is just the latest in a long line of recent shocking sexual assaults against women in the country.

According to the Hindustan Times, the victim went to her local police station to check in on the status of her husband who was arrested on an illegal gun charge three days ago. When she got to the station, she was told to wait in a lobby room before speaking with officials.

After about twenty minutes, two officers came into the lobby and dragged the woman away to a back room. They and one other officer proceeded to rape the woman for over two hours.

The woman’s husband was released from prison three hours after the rape. The victim says the officers threatened to arrest her husband again if she reported the rape to anyone. Thankfully, the woman managed to contact a superior at the department who ordered the officers arrested immediately.

One of the officers has been arrested and the other two are on the run.

“A case for rape is being registered against the policemen at the Sumerpur police station,” a representative from the station said. “The victim has been given security and best efforts are being put to track the remaining two.”
