Shocking photos have emerged showing emergency dispatchers in Miami Beach, Florida sleeping at their desks during a shift.
The photos, which were reportedly taken this past November, were given to a local news station by a current employee who wished to remain anonymous. The employee says that this is an ongoing problem that the Public Safety Communications Unit has been dealing with for a while.
A retired dispatcher from the Miami Beach headquarters saw the photos and expressed outrage, though says he is not entirely surprised and that part of the blame lies in “forced overtime.”
"It is very unacceptable,” said the former employee. “You never know when something is going to go down. This job can go from zero to 60 in a matter of seconds. You need to be awake and alert. Someone could miss a call for assistance. I experienced forced overtime. They would come up to you and say, 'You are staying.'"

Miami Beach police are not refusing to comment on the pictures until they receive a report themselves.
"Unless the department is provided with the pictures and more information, the department will not be commenting on this issue," said Sgt. Bobby Hernandez.
It should be noted that it hasn’t been confirmed that the employees seen sleeping on the job were actually working when the pictures were snapped. The dispatch center is allegedly installing security cameras in the facility as well as hiring more people to up the number of staff on hand.
