Democratic House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California said she wants an investigation into President Donald Trump and the possibility the Russian government has compromising information that could be used to blackmail him.
"I want to know what the Russians have on Donald Trump," Pelosi told NBC's "Meet the Press," reports Politico. "I think we have to have an investigation by the FBI into his financial, personal and political connections to Russia and we want to see his tax returns so we can have truth in the relationship [with] Putin, whom he admires."
Rumors that Russian intelligence services have compromising information have been swirling since the 2016 presidential election and were brought to a fever pitch when CNN and BuzzFeed reported on a dossier allegedly compiled by a former British spy that included detailed but unsubstantiated claims that Trump had indeed been working with the Russian government.
Those claims were investigated by U.S. intelligence sources but their veracity has not been determined.

Trump has vehemently denied those claims.
"FAKE NEWS - A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT!' Trump tweeted on Jan. 10.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has also denied the claims made in the dossier.
"Prostitution is an ugly social phenomenon ... but people who order such fakes, which are now used against the elected president of the United States, fabricate information and use it in the political struggle, they are worse than prostitutes," Putin said, according to Sputnik News. "They have no moral limits."

Putin added: "Trump, when he came to Moscow a few years ago, was not a politician. We did not even know about his political ambitions. He was just a businessman, one of the richest men in America. Is someone really thinking that our intelligence agencies are chasing every American billionaire, or what? Of course not. It’s just a complete nonsense."
