Two Australian parents are receiving attention all around the Internet today for their handling of their child’s sex change.

The parents, identified only by their last name, Bogert, published a retraction in The Courier-Mail to correct the mistake they made in 1995 when they announced the birth of a baby girl.

Kai’s mom spoke with the Courier-Mail about her decision to run the retraction.

“I needed to show my son I support him 100 per cent and wanted to let the world know that,” she said.

Kai told the paper he feels more at peace than ever after making the switch.

“This last week has changed everything for me,” he said. “I am still me but I am more me than I was a few days ago and feel free.”
