A man who purchased headphones at an Apple Store in Portland has accused a store employee of writing an offensive slur on his receipt – [email protected]
Adam Gregory Catanzarite posted on Facebook Tuesday about the incident, in which the employee allegedly wrote “[email protected]” in the area on a receipt meant for the customer’s email to appear, according to The Blaze.
Catanzarite said he identifies as queer and he thinks that the message left on the receipt was homophobic and unacceptable.
“So here’s a thing. I got called a [email protected] by an #Apple employee here in #Portland,” he wrote in his post. “The store manager did not do what he said he would to rectify the situation, so now I feel it is important to share the story. Being queer and having worked with queer youth, I know first-hand that this is an example of the type of #homophobic beliefs and actions that lead young people to harm themselves.”

Catanzarite asked his friends and anyone else to share his post to help draw attention to the example of homophobia. He asked them to consider spending their money somewhere else besides Apple.
On Wednesday, he also posted to say that the Apple store manager had offered to give him a refund for the headphones he purchased, which cost about $30. He also went on to talk about how he thinks the employee at the Apple store should learn about
“Due to the policies of the organization, I will not know the intent of the individual who put in [email protected] as my email address. It is possible that this could have been made in error, but the impact of the action remains the same,” Catanzarite wrote. “The employee who entered [email protected] should not be fired (take a minute to let that settle in if you need to), but should be given an opportunity to learn about the impact of the use of the word fag and how these words impact the individuals who have been oppressed by them.”
