Police Officer's Kind Deed Goes Viral (Video)

| by David Bonner

An incident between a Phoenix police officer and a homeless man has gone viral (video below).

But unlike some of the negative stories about police, this one has a happy ending, reports AWM.

It all started when someone called the police because the homeless man was allegedly loitering around a gas station.

When Officer Mark Valenzuela arrived, he talked to the man about what he was doing. He found the man was not doing anything illegal, but that he was barefoot.

As it was an unusually cold January day, Valenzuela decided to give his spare pair of shoes to the man.

So, with the man seated on the tailgate of the police vehicle, Valenzuela kneeled down like a shoe salesman and placed a pair of socks and his shoes on the man’s cold, sore feet.

Fortunately, the cop and the homeless man had the same shoe size, so the shoes fit perfectly.

When the good Samaritan officer was asked about it, he described it as being inspired by God. “He was just very thankful,” said Valenzuela. “I could see a little bit of money in his pocket, he had some dollar bills and some change. He wanted to pay me for the shoes and I just told him they were a gift from God.”

The U.S. government’s official definition of homelessness, notes the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, is “an individual without permanent housing who may live on the streets; stay in a shelter, mission, single room occupancy facilities, abandoned building or vehicle; or in any other unstable or non-permanent situation.”

More than 550,000 people are homeless each night in the U.S., according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, citing statistics from January 2015.
