A Cleveland police officer heroically stepped in to save a little boy who nearly drowned in his aunt’s pool, and the entire ordeal was captured on his body cam.
Officer Ismael Quintana was patrolling in Cynthia Conner’s neighborhood when he received a call for backup. Another officer was speaking to Conner at the time about an issue with her fence when a relative came rushing out to tell her that her two-year-old nephew was unconscious by the pool after drowning.
“He was purple. He was lifeless," Conner recalled. “His lips were shaking. It’s something I’m never gonna forget.”
When Officer Quintana arrived, two-year-old Drances was lying in the driveway unconscious.
“That's probably been the only time I've ever been scared,” Quintana said.
Despite his fear, Officer Quintana sprung into action and instructed Conner to do mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while he performed chest compressions. After repeated attempts to revive him, just as things were looking grim, water rushed out of the toddler’s mouth and his young life was saved.
“If it wasn’t for you, what if I couldn’t have did [sic] it all by myself?” said Cynthia Conner to Officer Quintana a month after the amazing rescue.
Reports say that Quintana has been nominated for an award for his heroic act, and two-year-old Drances is apparently in good health.
