In a recent interview, President Barack Obama mentioned a couple of prominent celebrities who he thought represented the way that the public’s conception of the American dream has shifted since he was young. Obama said people used to want the simple things in life, but now they want to live an extravagant lifestyle like Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. He made his comments during an interview with David Blum for Kindle Singles.

“Part of the American dream — even if you’re poor, or lower-middle class — involves yearning for tangible things you can’t afford," Blum said. "Were there things, when you were growing up, that you yearned for that you couldn’t afford?”

“There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous,” Obama said. “Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.”

Obama has previously called West a “jacka--” on two occasions. West responded at a concert earlier this year.

“I don’t give a f--- what the president’s got to say,” West said in a freestyle rap performance.

The president said if he had not gone into politics, he could see himself “being a good teacher.” He was a professor at the University of Chicago Law School prior to his political career, The Inquisitr reported.

"The interview with President Obama, pegged to his latest speech on jobs and the economy in Chattanooga, focuses on the president's personal connection to the economic pressures that now face millions of Americans," Blum said about their talk.
