Two Words Cost This School Board President His Job (Video)

The president of a school board in a small town in New York resigned after being caught on camera calling a parent a “chubby wubby” at a school board meeting.

“This one here, chubby wubby, she gets fatter and fatter at every meeting. She really does,” Ray Cote is heard saying in a recording of last month's meeting.

Little did he know, the microphone was on.

Parent Deena Bell heard the comment and posted the video on YouTube.

“It totally tells us that he cares nothing for the community that he says he upholds,” Bell told WABC-TV. “Nothing. He cares nothing for us.”

Cote was the president of the school board in Mahopac in Putnam County, located about 60 miles north of New York City.

He resigned from his post Tuesday after issuing a written apology.

"My words were inappropriate and do not reflect my feelings or attitudes," he wrote. "I will strive to regain the trust and respect of the community."

Cote also said he will not seek re-election.

Ironically, Cote was part of a sensitivity and diversity committee created after students posted racial comments on Twitter after a basketball game.

"I also have a job, and I think the other parents in this community have a job, to really really pound into their kids what's right and what's wrong. And antics like this do not help," noted parent Roger Garcia.

The mother in question, who is an active member of the community, was not named.

A school board member contacted the state Board of Education, which acknowledged Cote’s apology.

"We are disappointed by and do not condone this lapse of judgment on the part of Mr. Cote," the Board said in a statement. "The BOE expects all of its members and meeting participants and attendees to act in a respectful manner. It is our commitment to move forward as a community in a positive manner and focus on the education of our children
