A North Carolina woman was shocked on Saturday as she drove down Interstate 77 and saw a man riding on the back of a speeding car.
"All of a sudden the kids say, 'There's someone on top of the car on the trunk,' and I'm like, 'What?'" Brenda Cruz recalled. "I said, 'Let me get my phone,' and started recording."
As other drivers became aware of the incident, many began to slow down so that they could take a look at the man.
The video shows a man sitting on the outside trunk of a sedan, which speeds 50 mph down the interstate. Initially, Cruz's 17-year-old son Samuel believed the man was a dummy.
The man hanging on to the trunk can soon be seen breaking the back windshield and climbing inside the car. According to the Cruz family, the man had something sharp in his hand when he smashed open the glass.
The Cruz family expressed concern for the driver, a woman, and the child in the back of her car.
"I'm really worried because I just hope she's OK, you know, with her kid," Samuel said.
Though authorities received several calls regarding the incident, as well as the video footage, they say they don't have enough evidence to investigate. If police do manage to track down both people, the driver will be held responsible for putting the man in danger.
Authorities believe that both the driver and the man on the trunk probably know each other, and that a domestic incident may have been taking place.
