There have been several reports of police shooting and killing suicidal people, but Officer Jamie Hardy recently saved the life of a suicidal man who was armed in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina (video below).
David Bundy told a 911 dispatcher on July 27 that he was hearing voices and had not taken his medication.
Hardy answered the call, and his body cam filmed what happened when he arrived at Bundy's home.
Hardy saw Bundy reaching towards his back pocket, and asked him what he had. Bundy informed Hardy that he had a knife. Hardy calmly held Bundy's arms. Hardy asked Bundy for the knife, but Bundy said that he needed it to hurt himself.

According to WRAL, Hardy told Bundy:
No, I don’t want you to hurt yourself, and I don’t want you to hurt me either. Don’t take that knife out. Listen, I got a little kid at home, and I want to go home to him, OK? And I don’t want nothing bad to happen to you. That’s why I’m here.
Hardy wrestled Bundy down, and some paramedics took the knife away from the 39-year-old man.
Hardy and Bundy were reunited on Thursday for the first time since the incident.

According to Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Charles Hasty, Hardy will receive a commendation for saving Bundy's life at a future city council meeting, notes RRSpin.com.
Hasty has sent the body cam video out to train other police.
Bundy apologized to Hardy who told him, "It's all right, bud ... It's over and done with, nobody got hurt, that's the main thing."
