New York’s ‘Cannibal Cop’ Becomes Jailhouse Cook

| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

Former NYPD police officer Gilberto Valle, who was convicted last year of conspiracy to kidnap, torture and eat women, is now a cook in jail.

Valle, 29, makes breakfast and lunch for inmates at Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan for 44 cents an hour, the New York Daily News reported.

“He has mastered making pizza,” his mother, Elizabeth Valle, told the Daily News.

She said her son enjoys being in the kitchen in order to “kill time.”

Arrested on Oct. 24, 2012, and convicted in 2013, Valle has not yet been sentenced for his crime.

The Queens man has asked for a new trial, but a judge has not made a decision.

“He’s not the monster they portray him to be,” his mother said. “He’s innocent.”

Valle worked as a police officer for six years. His newlywed wife Kathleen Mangan found a cache of disturbing images on their computer as well as webchats from a site called DarkFetishNet.com.

In one discussion, he said he would bring his girlfriend “Kathleen” to Pakistan, where he and another man would butcher her. In another he said he planned to abduct a woman so he could eat "some girl meat" for Thanksgiving dinner.

His wife gave the computer to the FBI. Investigators say they found a list of 100 women Valle planned to target, some of them found using a restricted law enforcement database.

“He was on that site for 2 1/2 years, and nothing ever happened to anyone,” Elizabeth Valle. “When he was convicted, I wanted to scream. I held back because I didn’t want him to hear me.”
