Footage of the final moments of journalist Michael Hastings has been discovered. A Los Angeles restaurant’s surveillance camera recorded Hastings’ Mercedes Benz traveling at extremely high speeds and crashing into a tree. The owner of Pizzeria Mozza, Nancy Silverton, gave the footage to police the day after the accident.
The L.A. County coroner’s office has not provided an official cause of death for Hastings and the results of a toxicology test have also not been released.
The lack of information about the crash has led to many conspiracy theories about Hastings’ death being circulated on the Internet, The Blaze reported. The LAPD said there was no evidence of foul play.
Hastings was best known for writing the Rolling Stone profile "The Runaway General," which ultimately forced the top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, to resign.
