A mysterious glowing orb that shot across the sky in California recently attracted the attention of UFO hunters, who claim the orb was an escape pod from a crashing ship.

The unusual object was seen moving through the sky and leaving a long tail behind, which is characteristic of space debris or a meteorite. After a moment, a second round object appeared and separated from the main orb.

California resident Ken Roberts was one of the first to see it during his drive home from work in southern California.

“I was driving home after work when this UFO or whatever you call it caught my eye,” Roberts said. “I don’t know what the hell to make of it. Couldn’t have been a plane…I never heard a crash after either.”

In footage that he filmed, the orb can be seen for about 30 seconds. The remaining part of the video cuts to a black screen for two minutes.

Various witnesses have described different viewing experiences, like one man who wrote about the event on UFO website Mutual UFO Network. The commenter, writing from Minnesota, noted that he saw what looked like a satellite in the sky break into two objects.

“I am unsure if what I observed and laid out in my narrative is what happened or if some light phenomenon caused by the satellite passing by the brilliantly lit half moon created an effect that I saw,” the commenter wrote.

Nigel Watson, author of the UFO Investigation Manual, suggested that the orb was an escape pod being ejected from a crashing UFO. Even if that’s not the case, Watson noted, the event has excited UFO hunters.

There have been several sightings of meteorite fireballs in America over the past few weeks, especially in California. Astronomers, who have argued that the mysterious orb was simply a meteorite breaking apart in the atmosphere, noted that the annual Quadrantids meteor shower is in peak.
