MTV reality TV star Clay Adler has died by suicide at the age of 27.
Adler, who was featured on two seasons "Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County," shot himself in the head in front of friends on March 25 while they were in the desert, reports TMZ.
The actor and TV personality had struggled with mental illness in the past, and sources said he did not have any substances, such as drugs or alcohol, in his system when he died.
Police officers said Alder and his friends were recreationally shooting guns in the desert, when Adler turned his gun on himself and fired the shot. He was transported to the hospital and died the following day.

"We are saddened by the news of Clay Adler's passing," MTV said in an April 11 statement, according to TMZ. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time."
Adler was best known for appearing in the "Laguna Beach" spinoff series in 2007 and 2008, although he also did some acting around that time and became friends with actress Jennifer Lawrence when she was up and coming. He later appeared with her on the red carpet at events.
He was also in the movie "The Fish Tank" and the TV show "Make It or Break It" and told The Orange County Register after his television debut in 2007 that it "took a while to get used to" living in front of multiple cameras for months at a time during his junior year of high school but that he eventually found it to be "no big deal."
"I'm hoping ["Newport Harbor"] will kind of jump start [an entertainment career]," the show's heartthrob said at the time, adding that he was "kind of deciding, figuring out" what he wanted to do at the time. "I'm interested in the whole aspect, whether it be in front of the camera or behind."

The reality star, who was born in August 1989, was born and raised in Newport Beach, California, and enjoyed spending his time surfing, fishing and spearfishing. To honor his memory, his father, Frank Adler, told Radar the family had a "paddle off" at the beach.
"The family is grieving and we are asking everyone to respect our privacy," Frank Adler told Radar. "He's deceased and that's all I can say."
Adler's loved ones stuck a small surfboard topped with a wreath into the sand at the beach and wrote "Clay" in the sand as a memorial.
