An unidentified woman was shot inside a movie theater in Renton, Washington, on Jan. 21 while watching "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" (video below).

"It got about 15-20 minutes into the film and I believe the lady in front of us that got shot was actually talking to her husband or significant other and that's when we heard the loud pop," one witness told KOMO.

"There was a gunshot and we thought it was a light bulb exploding in the theater, so no one really reacted," a second witness added.

Witnesses say that after the shooting, a man exited the theater.

"We saw the lady, she was laying on the bench with a shot in her upper chest," a witness recalled.

None of the witnesses wanted to be identified.

"Preliminary accounts indicate that an intoxicated suspect entered one of the theaters and was fumbling with a handgun he had in his possession when it went off, striking another patron seated in front of him," the Renton Police Department said in a statement, KOMO notes.

According to police, the father of the alleged shooter called 911 and said that his 29-year-old son was distraught over the shooting.

The son told police that he dropped his gun, and the weapon accidentally fired, notes King 5. He also reportedly told the cops that he had been drinking.

The son was taken into custody; the woman is in serious condition at a local hospital.

People in other screening rooms told Q13 Fox that movie theater employees did not tell them that there had been a shooting in another room.
