12-Day-Old Baby Saved By Mom During Deadly Crash

| by Jonathan Wolfe

A 12-day-old baby miraculously survived a horrific bus crash that killed four and severely injured seven others on Wednesday. Who does little Daniela Perez have to thank for being alive today? Her mother, naturally.

Mother Ana Perez was breastfeeding Daniela when the bus they were in struck a pile of steel pipes scattered across the highway. The pipes spilled onto the highway moments before when a semi-truck jackknifed and ran off the road.

The bus immediately spun out of control after hitting the pipes, and rolled over several times before sliding to a stop 50 feet off the road. Over 10 people were either killed or severely injured in the crash, but the most fragile body on board – little Daniela – wasn’t one of them. Ana Perez somehow shielded the child from the impact, and both survived.

"It was really, really bad," said Perez. "It was horrible. I didn't let her go. (The driver) was trying to avoid it, but it was too late. When I got up, I was in between two dead bodies. It was horrible."

Perez suffered bruises on her leg and back after slamming into a window during a role. Daniela survived the crash completely unscathed.

“It was a miracle,” Perez said.

There were 32 people aboard the bus when it crashed. Four died, seven were severely injured, and 14 others suffered minor injuries, leaving Daniela as one of only seven people unharmed in the accident.
