New surveillance footage from a Popeye’s fast food restaurant in Orlando shows a mother’s quick instincts that allowed her to save herself and her child from an SUV that suddenly and unexpectedly smashed through the store’s window.
The footage is somewhat shocking, as the mother and her child are shown sitting at a table near a window and eating their meals as if everything is normal. Suddenly, an SUV comes barreling towards them, and the mother grabs her child and just barely forces them out of harm’s way.
The entire video takes place over a span of only seven seconds, and the destruction caused by the crash is enough to demonstrate the significant injuries or possible death that the woman and her young child would have suffered if they had been hit.
The driver of the SUV, Phillip Brown, 26, was charged with DUI with serious bodily harm, driving on a suspended license and failure to obey a traffic control device, according to the Daily Mail. Brown allegedly ran a red light and collided with a Ford Focus, an accident which sent his vehicle straight towards the restaurant.
After the accident, law enforcement officals reported smelling alcohol on Brown's breath as he yelled profantities at the scene.
According to WESH, the vehicle involved in the accident was rented from Vanpool, a service that allows a group of people that live and work near each other to use the same rented car.
No one was seriously injured in the incident, although several individuals that were eating in the Popeye’s were rushed to the hospital.
